Dear reader,
My name is Eetu, and I wanted to create this post to give a brief introduction about myself and why I wanted to start this blog. I'm currently a university student but expect to graduate soon. During my university years, I studied humanities and journalism. I am passionate about privacy, technology, and animal rights, and have a deep interest in politics and ideologies. I also love listening to great music and playing chess.
Why I wanted to start this blog
I have always enjoyed writing and have noticed over the years that it is also easier for me to express myself this way. I often think about a certain topic and how it would be nice to write about it, so starting this blog is also a way for me to have a platform to share my thoughts about the world, instead of keeping them all by myself.
I'm also a fan of quality writing, where the writer’s extensive research is noticeable from the article, and the writer clearly knows the topic well. This is the goal of this blog as well, as I want to focus on quality over quantity, and extensive research will be a central part of ensuring this.
The focus
I will write about things that interest me, and that I think could also interest you, my dear reader. However, to have a coherent theme around this blog, I focus solely on things related to technology and privacy. Technology has been an interest for me for probably over 15 years, while privacy has become a passion for me in the last 8 years. In my writing, I also want to avoid overly technical language, so that everyone can understand my articles, and hopefully learn something. After all, knowledge is power.
Why moonwriting?
When I considered names for this blog, I first thought of something simple like ‘Eetu’s blog’. This didn’t inspire me, so I explored further. I had originally thought that I would cover different themes instead of only writing about technology and privacy, so I didn’t consider names related to this field. So, I came up with the name before I had locked in the overall theme. At some point, I shifted to names related to space, until it finally hit me that moonwriting would be just perfect. The name didn’t just look cool but had actual relevance to my life. You see, during my university years, I often wrote my essays during the night hours. Under the light of the moon, one could say! I expect that much of my writing for this blog follows the same habit, as I’m a night owl at heart.
Closing remarks
I’m pretty excited to start this blog and have already planned some future articles. The next one that I will publish soon covers the rapidly expanding age verification, and how it presents a significant privacy threat for everyone. I would like to publish new articles regularly, but because this is mainly a hobby project for me, I don’t want to make any promises about the schedule.
